Our Ministry Team

Bro. Steven became the pastor of First Baptist Sulligent in 2020. He has served in ministry for over twenty years at churches in Alabama, West Virginia, and Mississippi. He is a former special education teacher and a graduate of the Teach MS Institute at Ole Miss. Bro. Steven has a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and is a Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator. He received his D.Min. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, with a specialization in Church Health. Bro. Steven enjoys serving our town as a bus driver for Sulligent School and as a chaplain for the Sulligent Police Department.

Jeff grew up in Huntsville, Alabama where attended college at UAH and served several churches. He came to Sulligent in 1990 after serving 7 years at Corinth Heights Baptist in Haleyville, Alabama. He met his wife Lisa in Haleyville where she managed the original Guthries restaurant. They married in 1995 and have twin girls; Mackenzie and Macie. Jeff is a fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football and also enjoys playing golf. Lisa enjoys reading and is also a writer.

We are excited to welcome Aften Sorrells to our ministry team as our new Church Secretary! Mrs. Aften is a very familiar and loved member of our church family. Her experience, faithfulness, and servant’s heart will be a tremendous blessing to our church. We look forward to all that God will do through Aften in this new role.
